Solitude

Solitude can be defined as the state of being alone. But why would anyone want to be with himself or herself when there is so much to do on this planet? Can this be regarded as the case of loneliness where you are secluded from the world around you? No, this is not always the situation – as rather some people choose to spend some time alone.

Generally, people want to be alone at times of hardship and sorrow. As well as when they need time to think or sometimes sort their feelings out. Being with themselves gives them an advantage of not being bothered by anybody else. They are able to do whatever they wish and without worrying about the fact that they have to be at their best. It gives people a chance to recover their identity and boost their ego.

Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H) often used to visit the Cave of Hira in order to isolate himself from the rest of Makkah. He used to meditate in turn to find peace and tranquility within himself. And same as in the case of Thomas Edison – when this famous inventor went deaf, he did not consider it as a “handicap”. He said that it was rather an advantage because he did not have to listen ‘fool talk’ and it would give him an opportunity to be by himself.

I, myself, desire to be alone at times just to think about the meaning of life. My room is a great place for inspiration. Sometimes I would go there, sit on my bed and imagine about my future and where I would be in ten years of time. Other times I think about the decisions I have made in my life. Did I choose them right? Is it going to lead to happiness or maybe something else…?

Every now and then, it is essential for people to spend time alone. It’s good if they pick out a favourite place that is quiet and lovely. They can do whatever they want to do – from writing poems, gardening to painting. This often helps in the building of the individual essence of someone. It speeds up the process of finding out who they are and what they want to achieve in life.

Personally, I think it’s a great way to relieve yourself from different types of situations. And in the end…it really does help!

  1. Mashallah you wrote so well and knew yourself at such a young age.
"Generally, people want to be alone at times of hardship and sorrow. As well as when they need time to think or sometimes sort their feelings out." This resonates with me so so much.
